What is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease?

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, is a common, progressive lung disease that blocks airflow when you exhale, making it difficult to breathe. Chronic means long term and progressive means the disease will get worse over time.

The two main types of COPD are Chronis Bronchitis and Emphysema, both primarily caused by smoking. The lag between the beginning of smoking and the onset of COPD is about 10 years.
